Tools and Utilities
3 minutes
The app has many small useful tools that have evolved from daily use.
Maximum Value with Trailing Indicator
The current maximum value in dBuV with trailing indicator is prominently displayed in the top left, see local history
Small Helpers
-
Quick band switching FCC/CENELEC
-
Current band is prominently displayed, also in the main diagram
-
Flashlight right in the app (for noise sources in the attic…)
-
Connection status at a glance - green dog = connected, red dog = not connected
-
Screen stays on during noise measurement
-
Open nBox-Tool web interface from the menu
Lock Frequency Band
For devices that should only operate on a fixed frequency band, the frequency band can be locked:
- The band switch is no longer displayed, only the text of the current band
- When aborting a measurement, it automatically switches back to the configured band
- When starting the app, it also switches to the configured band
Escape Hatch: The band switch can be made visible again by tapping 3 times within 3 seconds on the band text in the upper right.
This feature is configured via App Settings.
Markers and Zoom in Main Diagram
Markers can be set in the main diagram to mark interesting frequencies:
- Set Marker: Tapping a position in the diagram sets a marker
- Remove Marker: Tapping again removes the marker
- Band Switch: Markers are remembered when switching frequency bands and displayed again when switching back
- Zoom: Horizontal zooming is possible via pinch gestures
These features can be enabled via an App Setting.
History View in Main Diagram
The heatmap (waterfall diagram) or an aggregated frequency curve can be displayed in the main diagram. This setting is configurable via App Settings.
Flexible View
All aggregated views can be toggled by tapping between:
- Heatmap
- Spectrum mean line and labeling of (up to) 3 peaks with frequency and strength
- Spectrum
Responsiveness
The app is optimized for smartphones but is equally usable on tablets.
Optional Configuration
-
Acoustic signal upon completion of measurement - Silent, Barking, or System tone
-
Quick switching FCC notched/unnotched (optional via settings) for mixed networks (when both FCC notched and FCC unnotched are used)
-
Display last 30 seconds in the main view as heatmap or spectrum
-
Automatic setting of nBox-Tool time if it differs (optional via settings)
Extra Links
To make shortcuts to frequently used websites available in the app (e.g., ticket system, GIS system), they can be configured in the web portal under “Additional Links”.
The additional links are available in the app menu.
Quick Noise Check
- Check noise patterns on both bands in a quick workflow
- 10 samples per frequency band, automatic band switching
- Configurable result display
Create Noise Investigation from Quick Noise Check
After completing a Quick Noise Check, a noise investigation can optionally be created from the result via a button. This simplifies the documentation of found noise sources.
This feature is configured via App Settings.
